Madeira Wines in the wine fair Essencia do Vinho - Porto

Madeira Wines marked their presence in the 18th edition of the Essencia do Vinho Porto fair, which started on 31st of March at Palácio da Bolsa, an action that has the support of the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft Institute (IVBAM).

In this edition, Madeira Wine will be promoted through a masterclass with commentary, entitled “The Iconic Varieties of Madeira Wine”, scheduled for April 2, at 6:30 pm, in the Galeria dos Presidentes, which will be oriented by Rubina Vieira, responsible for the Educational Actions Office at IVBAM.

In this masterclass will be highlighted the particularities of each of Madeira Wine varieties and will be given to taste 6 Madeira wines of different producers, namely: Justino´s Madeira Wines - Justino’s Madeira Single Casks Sercial 2005; Sercial 10 Anos - HM Borges; Verdelho 20 Anos - Henriques & Henriques; Malvasia Cândida – Frasqueira 1996 - Vinhos Barbeito; Blandy´s Malvasia 20 Anos - Madeira Wine Company; Boal 1992 - Pereira d'Oliveira.

Madeira Still Wines will also be represented by the producers Octávio Ascensão Ferraz (Palmeira e Voltas and Xavelha) and Seixal Wines (Terras do Avô) which will be present at a stand, showing their reds, rosés, whites and sparkling wine.

Esência do Vinho is one of the largest assemblies of Portuguese wines at the national level, bringing the main players of the wine sector closer to an audience that brings together professionals and people interested in this sector. As usual it will bring together producers, promoters, sommeliers, journalists, opinion leaders and even importers and distributors, both national and international, some of them, participants in the election of the “TOP 10 Portuguese Wines”, a tasting with a jury, that will happen during the fair.

It is important to refer that the mainland market has been showing a considerable volume in the commercialization of our wines. In 2021, referring to Madeira wine, there was an increase of 69% in quantity and 122% in value, translating into around 138,000 liters and an amount of 1,211,214.79 euros.

Madeira Still Wines have been conquering the Portuguese market, which in 2021 absorved around 12,000 liters, accounting for a total of €130,042, encouraging values ​​for the sale of these regional wines, taking into account the wines its small scale of production.

The total cost of this action was 85% co-financed by community funds provided by the "Regional Operational Program for Madeira 2014-2020" and the remainder supported by the Regional Budget.
