The Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicrafts Institute (IVBAM) marks the end of the ‘Madeira Wines and Handicrafts’ themed week with the ‘Lavar dos cestos’ event, this Friday, between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., at its facilities located on Rua 5 de Outubro.
The event aims to mark the end of the harvest season, which is the theme for celebrating Madeira wines through two masterclasses, one on still wines and the other on fortified wines. Both will be led by Rubina Vieira, head of IVBAM's Educational Activities Office, and are open to the general public upon registration.
In an outdoor setting, in the late afternoon, between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., there will be a masterclass on ‘Still Wines of Madeira & Regional Delicacies’, featuring wines from the producers Seiçal and Casa do Caramanchão. The gastronomic pairing will be with the following wines: Seiçal Branco Verdelho 2024, Seiçal Tinto 2020, Boneca de Canudo Branco Verdelho 2023, and Boneca de Canudo Tinto 2022.
The masterclass ‘Madeira Wine & Chocolate’ will take place between 8 and 9 pm, in a more intimate indoor setting. Three wines from the producer Henriques & Henriques will be tasted - Verdelho 5 Anos, Single Harvest Boal 2009, and Single Harvest Malvazia 2001 - paired with chocolates from the Uau Cacau.
The masterclasses are paid and limited to 20 people, so those interested should register in advance by sending an email to promocao.ivbam@madeira.gov.pt.
The ‘Madeira Wines and Handicrafts’ week began on September 22, with the aim of celebrating the natural connection between these two products/arts, so well represented by the barrels, built by the cooper, where Madeira Wine matures.
